A Pair of sneakers for the Instagram Age.
The sneaker culture has drastically changed since the apparition of social media. What used to be reserved for a small community of passionate people is now becoming mainstream. The first thing people do after buying a new pair is to put it on the gram. Following this trend, Instagram “sneaker influencers” and “hypebeasts” are engaging in an endless race to get the most recent collabs, the most exclusive drops, the most expensive pairs every week in the most unsustainable fashion in order to “stay relevant”.
Using Augmented Reality, I’ve decided to make a pair of sneakers for the social media era. I’ve created an “Air Jordan 1 High Supreme IG” that will only live as an Instagram Augmented Reality filter. The pair will only be available through a private link and can only be activated on one single device with an NFT certificate. An exclusive grail for the sneakerheads of Instagram.
An alternative against the negative effects of manufacturing
There are growing concerns over the environmental impact of the sneaker industry and fashion industry in general. Digital sneakers stand out as the most sustainable option for influencers in the near future. It’s doubtful that virtual kicks will ever replace real ones but as our separate realities remain fractured over various devices, it’s not crazy to see a potential market. The “AJ1 High Supreme IG” aims to be part of this conversation.
The first AJ1 on the blockchain
The “Air Jordan 1 High Supreme IG” is a unique digital piece. To guarantee its uniqueness and value, it comes with a certificate of authenticity certified on the Ethereum Blockchain. The cryptographic fingerprint of the document was secured over 7’000 times worldwide on the Ethereum blockchain. Anyone holding the document can instantly verify its authenticity.
Jordan X Supreme
The goal of this project was not only to make a digital pair of shoes, but to make a cool product with a story that would resonate with fans of the brand if it was an official release. Supreme has shaped our understanding of what it means to be a sneakerhead and how far someone will go to get a pair of sneakers. Supreme is a very polarizing brand that doesn't shy away from controversy when it comes to collabs and accessories, so it felt the perfect brand for this project.
